Charity Calendar update

We have had quite the time with this calendar. From location issues, our children being at each shoot, and even some bad mouthing about us and our talents, it has been an up and down ride. We lost motivation after a while, but remembered and focused on why we decided to do this in the first place, to give back to our charity of choice, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. That alone has brought us back from the dead, and slamming these shoots like none other! With two 3-year olds in tow, we have been doing 2-3 models a week for the past couple weeks. LOADS of editing, planning, and creative thinking. We have the end in our sight, and have started putting together the final layouts for the calendar.
Here are a few of our most recent ones, Miss June (Bailee) and Miss October (Cora). Not too shabby! We can't WAIT to share the final chosen photos in color, and hope we can raise a good amount for the charity! Hope you like them! Check out www.facebook.com/CheesecakeOohLaLa to find ordering information! We would like all orders to be completed no later than Sunday the 15th of December. Scenery for the outside shoots are from the beautiful Whidbey Island, Washington!

Spooky Halloween decor!

I just love my little decorations! The idea came off of Pinterest.com , I need to make more though! They are a little spread out for me, I want my spooky town to be more full!! I got the little houses and people at the dollar tree and the light posts were a pack of 4 for a dollar, and of course the spider web stuff I used as fog for $1. Next I went to Home Depot and got some cheap black matte spraypaint for just over a dollar, took it all home and spray painted the little ugly cheesy Christmas houses transforming them into a spooky village! I put a little play doh over the little peoples faces and spray painted them too!

I had a lot of spider web stuff left over so I decorated my dining room light with it and some little black creepy spiders!

I also tried making a cool spooky hanging decoration out of cut trash bags to hang on my front porch, but the wind was blowing and I was standing on a wobbly railing, and I had my 5 year old helping me with the tape which didn't work out so well, so I will not share that mess of a photo with you, it is worse than you may think lol. Have I had the time to take it down yet though? The answer is no. *face-palm* maybe I will do that tomorrow so I don't embarrass the neighborhood!

How are you decorating for Halloween or fall?

Charity Pinup Calendar

So over the summer, my friend and I began our dream careers as Pinup Photographers! We work like two peas in a pod, and we decided to make a calendar for charity - we chose the Navy~Marine Corps Relief society because her husband is in the Navy and my husband is a Marine, and the Relief Society is such an amazing program, helping out Sailors and Marines financially and otherwise! We did a calendar girl casting call, tallied the votes, and got our ladies months and outfits assigned! This Wednesday will be our first calendar shoot, Miss May, followed by Thursday for Miss September! I am so excited to get a move on with this calendar! But I have to let you in on a probably well-known secret... when ya bring military wives together, there will always be some that have issues with SOMETHING. If it's not this, it's that! Let me tell ya, it is sooo frustrating, my business partner and I are trying to do a kind thing for a charity close to our hearts, and while we have many supporters, there are always those who find a stink out of every situation. Do yall know any people like that? I just can't wait to get the calendar put together and donate!! My heart feels so full knowing my business partner and I can make a difference and give back! We are putting our heart and souls into this calendar. :)

On a seperate but kinda relevant note, about 2 weeks ago I messed my computer up some kinda aweful! I truely don't understand why I have such bad luck with electronics, I swear I don't do anything to them, they just hate me! My husbands co-worker said he could fix it up that day for us, little did he know how far gone it was!! Muahahahaha! Just kidding. But it took him over a week to get it figured out, I got it back yesterday and it is still a little silly. I got the new Photoshop CS6 put on it, and it keeps locking me out today! I really want to get these photos edited for a paid pinup shoot customer, I may end up having to go over to Blue Velvet's house to finish them up if my laptop has to go back in to the e-doc!

Just wanted to share with yall what I have been up to lately! :)

Wet Sets are trial and error

I just can't believe how simple wet sets are! You know what I am talking about right? Those foam/sponge rollers your granny always wore to bed? Although they are simple, these little stinkers are deceiving! The sponge will hold in water, keeping the hair damp longer, so they need at minimum overnight to dry! And sometimes it is hard to tell if they are wet, or just simply cold! If you plan to give them a go, do it as early as you can before bed, afternoon would be most ideal, as long as you plan to stay in the rest of the day! Or maybe you are one of those that don't mind going to the grocery store with rollers in, if thats the case, do it whenever! :P I like to use a setting lotion before rolling, since my hair doesnt like to keep curl the setting lotion definitely holds it in. Just be sure to not saturate your hair too damp with the lotion, if you take the rollers out while your hair is damp the curl won't stay! When I first was interested in exploring wet sets, I found an amazing lady who does tutorials on it, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRWbopnJxvI&feature=c4-overview-vl&list=PL6DBD8450DFF85577 <This is the first section of the tutorial, be sure to follow up with her brush out video! She really goes into detail and explains everything so well. There are multiple ways of rolling your hair to achieve different looks, so feel free to play around! Be sure not to TWIST the hair when rolling, make it a smooth flat section as you roll. And tuck those ends nicely! The outcome will be crazy if this isn't done. I also use a thin net type bandana when i sleep so my hair doesn't get frizzy, and in the case that a roller comes un-done, it will stay right where it is :)
Here is a quick snap of my first wet set result, not too shabby!

Please feel free to leave comments, I would love to hear your experiences! xoxo Guys and Dolls!

Cherry Cheesecake?? Is this a food blog?

You may be asking yourself... Whats up with this Cherry Cheesecake? Is this a food blog? The answer is no. Cherry Cheesecake is my pinup name, you can expect to see quite a bit of vintage related experiences and topics to come. Cherry was chosen because of the location we just moved from, Cherry Point North Carolina. Cherry point has a special place in my heart, it truely has been my favorite place to be, the friendships I have made, and did I mention the BEACH is very close to Cherry Point? I love the beach! And Cheesecake, you may be thinking "this lady is just a fattie who loves desserts!" ...well.... I am not going to lie, cheesecake is one of my top 3 fav desserts EVARRR... but thats not what it's about! If you don't have much knowledge on the vintage pinup world,  Cheesecake is a style of photos, VERY CHEESY!! Totally my style ;) . So there ya have it! Cherry Cake for short <3 . I have my own pinup photography business called "Cheesecake Ooh-La-La" which moves around with me, but as of now I am based out of Oak Harbor, WA! Such a beautiful place. You can find my portfolio on my facebook page www.facebook.com/CheesecakeOohLaLa . My adorable husband is a US Marine, hence why I say my businesses move around with me :) . I am also a Scentsy and Velata consultant, as well as a soon to be Grace Adele consultant! Scentsy is my passion, I've always been a candles type girl. I also have 2 Children, and you will meet them in future blog posts, I try to do creative projects with them and will share them here from time to time! I called this my experience because I am here to share with you all great ideas, tips, projects, my life phases (i go through different phases quite a lot and I need to share them with someone!), I hope to give you a laugh once in a while, and a little insight. This blog will be a well-rounded page of everything I love and experience, and I sure hope you will become a fan as well as give me any tips you may have as well! But vintage will be a major role here <3 LOVE TO ALL and can't wait to get started sharing with you!!! <3
